Bellevue Arts Museum: “Fragile Fortress: The Art of Dan Webb.” Through June 15, Bellevue Arts Museum hosts the work of Seattle artist Dan Webb, who is returning to BAM with his first museum solo exhibition.

Featuring never-before-seen sculptures alongside some of the artist’s most iconic pieces, “Fragile Fortress” provides a survey of 15 years of intense exploration and self-invention.

In his mostly figurative work, the self-taught wood carver explores themes such as the fragility of life and human resilience, balancing this heady content with his characteristic, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Skillfully-chiseled carvings play against rough-hewn surfaces, revealing a tension between what was, what is, and what could be. Click here for more information.

Bellevue Arts Museum: “At Your Service.” Through Sept. 21, Bellevue Arts Museum hosts the “At Your Service” exhibit, which captures the theme that everyday objects can become intimately important and indispensable to people. “At Your Service” explores one such object: the seemingly ordinary domestic plate. Curated by Niki Johnson and Amelia Toelke, the exhibition brings together 10 unique artists who share a passion for this widely used, yet rarely examined, household item. Re-imagining our lived realities with the plate, they invite viewers to incorporate their own stories and experiences. Click here for more information.

Celebrating her debut at Bellevue Arts Museum as part of the seminal BAM Biennial 2010: Clay Throwdown! exhibition, the Canadian artist continues her exploration of the universal tale of human existence. Her timeless sculptures are formed using the ancient craft of hand-coiling and pinching from the feet up, without molds or internal armature. In her work, Venter engages with her own life experiences alongside a vast array of historical sources, including the Tanagra figures of Ancient Greece which inspire her sculptures’ provocative surface treatment.
